VERTEBRATE

ANIMAL USE

Through distinct yet complementary roles, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Laboratory Animal Program, and Centrally Managed Animal Facilities collaborate to uphold animal well-being in research, testing, and teaching while providing the necessary infrastructure, programs, and support for faculty.

Ensuring Excellence in Animal Care

Our support staff is ready to help with your animal research needs.

The Laboratory Animal Program (LAP) provides veterinary care, ensures animal housing, environments, and husbandry practices are consistent with federal policies, provides training for species-specific procedures, assists the IACUC with assessing reports of concern and ensures that animal ordering is done in accordance with IACUC policies.

The mission of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is to foster an environment that supports high quality research and education using animals while ensuring Purdue’s animal care program is in compliance with all federal, state, institutional and accrediting requirements. With a focus on the highest standards of customer service, the IACUC supports the regulatory requirements of the IACUC (Committee) and serves as a liaison between the users of vertebrate animals and the Committee.

The Centrally Managed Animal Facilities (CMAF) provide high-quality animal housing, husbandry, and breeding services in a clean, welcoming environment. Guided by a strong commitment to customer service, CMAF is dedicated to delivering efficient, reliable care—ensuring that the health and well-being of your animals remain our top priority.
